The sheer size and productive output of fandom will never cease to amaze me. I periodically check the Harry Potter section of ff.net, just to see how high the story total has gotten. Today it was at 583,579. The English language total is 457,010 stories.
But that's not the most amazing thing, in my opinion. If you narrow it down to only English language stories more than 60,000 words long -- novel length stories, basically -- you'll still have 11,323 stories available to read. To put this in context:
11,323 fics / 365 days = 31 years
That's right. If you wanted to read absolutely nothing but novel-length Harry Potter fanfiction, and you did it at a rate of one story a day, it would take you 31 years to get through all of them. And that's not even taking into account that not every Harry Potter fic is even on ff.net or that people are writing new stories to add to the total even as I write this.
I don't really have a point, here. Fandom just boggles my mind sometimes.
